About Our Scholarships

The Georgetown Working League is an organization of women, founded in 1913, dedicated to supporting community pride and spirit through scholarships for deserving students and gifts to many community institutions.

Profits from the Working League’s annual fair fund our scholarships as well as supporting town services. We are a nonprofit organization.

The League finances two scholarships of its own: the Josephine Hooker Shain Scholarship and the Georgetown Working League Scholarship. It also administers the Woodex Bearing Company Scholarships, the Riggs Cove Foundation Scholarship, the Benjamin Riggs Scholarship, and the Robinhood Marine Center Scholarship.  We thank all those benefactors who makes these scholarships possible.

These scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis and range from $1000 to $2000. You are encouraged to apply each year, whether or not you have been awarded a scholarship previously.

Georgetown Working League Scholarship Winners for the 2011-2012 Academic Year

Congratulations to our  scholarship winners for 2011-2012 !

Georgetown residents should address inquiries and applications to the Georgetown Working League, PO Box 262, Georgetown,  ME 04548

Thank you to all who applied for our scholarships this year.  The Georgetown Working League is the organization that administers not only its own scholarship but others that are generously donated in our small island community.  We gathered on the 28th of June ’11 for a luncheon in honor of these scholars.  Diann Longstreet, the League’s resident photographer (and a mighty fine one!) took this photo as well as many others on our website.

The Josephine Hooker Shain Scholarship, the League’s oldest prize was won by Justine Kendzia.  The Georgetown  Working League scholarship was won by Katie Crosby. Winners of scholarships from other community sources were:  from Woodex Bearing Company, Ben Cook, Amanda Stevens, Calvin Stevens, and Debra Thibodeau.  From the Robinhood Marina, the winners were Aliison MacDonald and Rebecca White.  The League anawarded Riggs Cove scholarships to Danielle Perry and Nicole Rubin.
