The Georgetown Working League is an organization of women, founded in 1913, dedicated to supporting community pride and spirit through scholarships for deserving students and gifts to many community institutions.


Profits from the Working League’s annual fair fund our scholarships as well as supporting town services. We are a nonprofit organization.


The League finances two scholarships of its own: the Josephine Hooker Shain Scholarship and the Georgetown Working League Scholarship. It also administers the Woodex Bearing Company Scholarships, the Riggs Cove Foundation Scholarship, the Benjamin Riggs Scholarship, and the Robinhood Marine Center Scholarship.  We thank all those benefactors who makes these scholarships possible.


These scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis and range from $1000 to $2000. You are encouraged to apply each year, whether or not you have been awarded a scholarship previously.


Scholarships are limited strictly to students seeking higher education who reside in Georgetown, Maine. Deadline for applications for the 2011-2012 academic year

is April 30th, 2011.

Georgetown Working League Scholarships

Congratulations to our 2009-2010 scholarship winners!


Six of the 2009-2010 scholars attended the Working League’s Luncheon on June 23rd. Congratulations to last year’s winners!

The Georgetown Working League has awarded scholarships to eight students for the 2009-2010 academic year. Three scholarships were given to graduating seniors and five to Georgetown residents currently enrolled in higher education.


The Josephine Hooker Shain Scholarship, the League's oldest scholarship, was awarded to graduating Morse High School senior Jake Newton. Jake plans to attend the Maine Maritime Academy this fall.   Maia Titcomb was given the League's own Georgetown Working League Scholarship.  Maia will be a senior at St. Michael’s College. The Riggs Cove Scholarship was divided this year between Catharina Damrell and Charles Richard. Catharina is a student at Connecticut College, and Charles, a senior graduating from Mt. Ararat High, School will attend the University of Massachusetts. Daniel White was awarded the Benjamin Riggs Scholarship. Daniel will be a junior attending the University of Maine at Orono.  Calvin Stevens, a graduating senior from Chop Point Academy, received the Robinhood Marine Center Scholarship.  Calvin will attend the Maine Maritime Academy.

The Woodex Bearing Company Scholarship was divided between two students, Micheal Guethle, who attends Clarkson University, where he will be a junior, and Katelyn Longstreet, who will be a junior at the University of Maine at Farmington.
